Grafana Integration
OpSee includes a built-in Grafana instance for advanced time-series visualization and alerting. While OpSee's Cockpit handles operational dashboards, Grafana excels at deep sensor data analysis.
Accessing Grafana
Grafana is available at http://your-server:3000 or through the NGINX proxy at /grafana/.
User management
Navigate to Admin → Access Control → Grafana Users to manage Grafana accounts:
| Action | Description |
|---|---|
| View users | List all Grafana user accounts |
| Promote to Admin | Give a user full Grafana access |
| Set as Editor | Allow dashboard creation and editing |
| Set as Viewer | Read-only dashboard access |
:::tip Align with OpSee roles Keep Grafana roles consistent with OpSee permissions:
- OpSee admins → Grafana Admin
- OpSee supervisors → Grafana Editor
- OpSee operators → Grafana Viewer :::
Data sources
Grafana connects to the same PostgreSQL/TimescaleDB database as OpSee. The data source is pre-configured during installation.
Available data includes:
- Time-series tag data: all sensor readings stored by the ingestion workers
- Availability records: equipment state changes and downtime events
- Production data: piece counts, reject counts, OEE metrics
Use cases
| Use Case | Why Grafana |
|---|---|
| Sensor monitoring | Real-time charts with auto-refresh and alerting |
| Historical analysis | Long time-range queries with flexible aggregation |
| Cross-plant comparison | Dashboard variables for multi-site filtering |
| Alerting | Threshold-based alerts via email, Slack, or webhooks |
| Custom queries | Direct SQL access to TimescaleDB |
OpSee vs. Grafana
| Feature | OpSee Cockpit | Grafana |
|---|---|---|
| Purpose | Operational monitoring (OEE, KPIs) | Deep sensor data analysis |
| Users | Operators, supervisors | Engineers, data analysts |
| Data focus | OEE metrics, production events | Raw sensor time-series |
| Customization | Drag-and-drop widgets | SQL queries, panel plugins |
| Alerting | Not built-in | Full alerting engine |
| Access | Built into OpSee UI | Separate Grafana UI |
:::info Complementary tools OpSee and Grafana are complementary. Use OpSee for OEE-focused operational dashboards and Grafana for deep-dive sensor data analysis. :::
