Data Not Showing

Work through these steps in order. Each one addresses the most likely cause at that point in the chain.

Step 1: Check the time range filter

The Time Range filter controls which period is displayed. If the selected range is in the future, or further in the past than data was collected, nothing will appear.

  • Verify the start and end dates in the filter toolbar.
  • Try switching to a preset like Last 7 days or Today to confirm whether data exists at all.
  • Check that the system timezone is set correctly in Administration → System Parameters — a timezone mismatch can shift data outside your expected range.

Step 2: Check the equipment filter

Most views in OpSee scope data to a single equipment or equipment group.

  • Confirm the correct equipment is selected in the filter.
  • If the equipment is not visible in the dropdown, it may be inactive. Check Administration → Equipment and verify the status is Active.
  • If you manage multiple sites, verify you are filtering within the correct site/area hierarchy.

Step 3: Check your permissions

Two independent things must both be in place. A missing permission hides the page; a missing equipment scope leaves the page visible but empty — which is the more common cause of "no data".

GrantWhat it doesSymptom when missing
A business role (role:Operator, role:Supervisor, …)Grants the permissions behind each page, e.g. perm:oee:readThe module is absent from the sidebar entirely
An equipment scope (equipment:<site> or All equipment)Decides whose data appearsThe page loads, but every list and chart is empty

To check what you hold, go to Profile (top-right avatar) → Roles and Permissions. If the Equipment access section is empty, that is your cause. Ask your administrator to add the grant in Administration → Access Control → Users, then sign out and back in.

Step 4: Verify ingestion workers are running

Data enters OpSee through background workers that collect values from data sources (MQTT brokers, OPC-UA servers). If a worker has stopped, no new data is written.

Go to Administration → Workers and check the status column. A green status means the worker is active and processing. A red or stopped status means data collection has halted for that source.

Restart stopped workers from the same screen, or check the worker logs for the underlying error.

Step 5: Verify tag configuration

Even if workers are running, data may not appear if the tags are misconfigured.

  1. Go to Administration → Data Tags and find the tags associated with your equipment.
  2. Check that each tag has a valid data source reference and is mapped to the correct equipment.
  3. Use the Tag Preview feature (if available) to see whether the tag is currently returning values.
  4. If a tag shows no recent values, trace it back to the data source: PLC register address, MQTT topic, or OPC-UA node id.

Step 6: Check OEE settings for the equipment

OEE metrics (availability, performance, quality) require the equipment to have an OEE configuration. Without it, no OEE values are calculated even if raw event data is present.

  1. Go to Administration → Equipment and open the equipment record.
  2. Click the OEE tab.
  3. Verify that an ideal cycle time, planned production time source, and at least one loss category are configured.
  4. If the configuration was recently added or changed, trigger a recalculation for the affected date range from this tab.
