Environment Variables

This page covers two levels of configuration: Docker deployment variables set at install time, and runtime system parameters configurable through the OpSee UI.

Deployment variables

These variables are defined in .env files at the root of the deployment and are consumed by Docker Compose at startup. The .env file is never committed to version control. Contact your system administrator for the actual values used in your installation.

Application

VariableDescriptionExample
SERVER_DOMAINPublic domain name of the OpSee instanceopsee.example.com

Grafana

VariableDescription
GF_SECURITY_ADMIN_USERGrafana administrator username
GF_SECURITY_ADMIN_PASSWORDGrafana administrator password

Keycloak

VariableDescription
KEYCLOAK_ADMINKeycloak administrator username
KEYCLOAK_ADMIN_PASSWORDKeycloak administrator password

PostgreSQL

VariableDescription
POSTGRES_DBName of the PostgreSQL database (OpSee by default)
POSTGRES_USERDatabase user for the application
POSTGRES_PASSWORDPassword for the database user
note

All deployment variables are set once at installation time. Changing them after the containers are running requires restarting the affected services. Coordinate any changes with your infrastructure administrator.

System parameters (UI)

Runtime configuration that does not require a container restart is managed through Administration → System Parameters in the OpSee interface. These parameters control application-level behavior and are stored in the database.

Common system parameters include:

  • Default language: the language displayed to users who have not set a personal preference
  • Timezone: the timezone used for displaying timestamps and scheduling shifts
  • Units of measure: system-wide unit preferences (metric / imperial) for duration and quantity fields
  • Duration format: how downtime durations are displayed (e.g. 04h 32m vs 272 min)

For localization-related parameters (language, timezone, date format), see the Localization page in the Administration section.
